The Fortune Family Cemetery was located near where the U.S. 25 connector is now located, not far from the Oak Grove Road.
Millington (M.L.) Fortune, a Confederate veteran who died in 1879, was buried in the cemetery.
During construction of the highway, the state Department of Transportation moved the graves to the cemetery at Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Millington (M.L.) Fortune enlisted in the 25th N.C. Infantry Regiment, Co. A, Edney’s Greys, in 1861. He was listed as a deserter 5-7-1863. He died in 1879. His grave site is now located at the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
