Middle Fork Baptist Church was organized in 1896. The church is located in the Middle Fork section of the Bat Cave community on Middle Fork Road.
The cemetery is not located near the church. The cemetery was listed as the Middle Fork Baptist Church Cemetery in the Henderson County N.C. Cemeteries book. It is possible that the church is maintaining and using the old family cemetery.
The cemetery is also known as the Huntley Family Cemetery.
Access to the cemetery is through a private driveway on Red Turn Lane, off the dirt portion of Middle Fork Road, not far from the former Camp Mishemokwa. The unpaved driveway is steep and rugged. The cemetery is surrounded by private property.
The oldest graves are those of Tincy Ann Huntley Morrow (1851-1892) and Willard Huntley, a child who died in 1898.
Surnames of persons buried in the cemetery include Conner, Flynn, Freeman, Hill, Huntley, Owenby and others.
There is a lower section of the cemetery containing unmarked graves that appear to be the grave sites of children. One of these graves is most likely the grave site of Stacey Hill, son of H.W. Hill and Fannie Fowler Hill, who died in the Flood of 1916.
The first wife of Brown Edgar Huntley was Belle (Ganier or Gainia) Wilson, daughter of James and Dela Wilson. She died in the Flood of 1916. Her grave site is located at the Middle Fork Baptist Church (Huntley Family Cemetery) next to the grave site of Brown Edgar Huntley. The couple’s two children, who also died in the flood, are buried at the Connor (Conner) Family Cemetery. Brown Edgar Huntley married Eva Conner after the death of his first wife.
The cemetery is in good condition.
