This is a survey of Henderson County history and heritage from 1860 to 1920.
The course is taught the second half of each semester at Blue Ridge Community College. The instructor, Jennie Jones Giles, is the author of articles, research summaries and other information on this web site.
Topics include the Civil War, Reconstruction, cultural changes, political and economic history, agriculture, transportation, religious history, education, industrialization, communities, tourism and recreation, the Spanish-American War and World War I.
Upon completion, students should be able to analyze significant socioeconomic, cultural and political developments in the county’s history from the Civil War to 1920.
