1920 to 21st Century

This is a survey of Henderson County history and heritage from 1920 to the 21st century.

The course is taught in the fall and spring semesters at Blue Ridge Community College. The instructor, Jennie Jones Giles, is the author of articles, research summaries and other information on this web site.

Topics include the cultural changes, political and economic history, agriculture, transportation, religious history, education, industrialization, communities, tourism and recreation, the Great Depression, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

Upon completion, students should be able to analyze significant socioeconomic, cultural and political developments in the county’s history from 1920 to the 21st century.
